Title: Summer Days
Fandom: House M.D.
Pairing: barely there House/Chase
Prompt: Summer
Word Count: 221
Rating: PG-13
Author's Notes: Chase is the office groundhog.
Like a groundhog for the summer, House can always tell when the season changed by monitoring Chase. Summer is upon them when his hair is bleached lighter by the all-natural effects of the sun and a crappy ozone layer. Summer is when Chase loses the long-sleeved shirts and dons the cotton short-sleeves. House really likes that one because now he can tell when something or someone really gets to Chase, because his arms erupt in goosebumps, his hairs standing on end.
Summer is Chase's lips tinged with red from cherry Popsicles he sneaks from pediatrics while cheering up seven-year-old girls who already are developing a crush on him. Summer is Chase's increased consumption of mints in an effort to hide the smell of barbeque food that he regularly enjoys at lunch in the cafeteria.
Summer is the smell of sunscreen on Chase's skin because God forbid he ever get a tan. The smell of fresh cut grass that's apparently Chase's summer cologne and that House kisses off when they go for summer mai-tais with little umbrellas in them.
Summer is Chase sweating and writhing in his cotton sheets and Chase showering in ice-cold water, hand pressed to the tiles.
Summer is Chase's favorite season and he's the office's personal barometer for it.
And House doesn't mind that a bit.
