Sometimes, she can’t exactly believe that she has given in to this man. God help her, she’s not sure how she’s managed ten years of it. Of course there had to come a time when they weren’t partners anymore, but she never expected to bring her work home to him. It’s not that she minds it. Martha grows on you and Alexis is incredible, but it’s just…sometimes she wants to throttle herself.
He slides into the chair opposite her, giving a low whistle. “Well, well, look at that, you have legs! I was starting to think you were going to hide them in formless pants forever.”
“Hello, Rick, good to see you too,” she deadpans. “Happy anniversary, you look wonderful.”
His smirk turns into a genuine smile and he leans over the table to press a kiss to her cheek. “You do look amazing,” he says. “Alexis sends her regards. She says that you’re clearly still under my thrall, but that she’s glad you are. She’s doing well,” Rick promises, folding his napkin in his lap, glancing between her and the napkin and giving her the opportunity to look him over.
She reaches over the table, fingertips rifling the grey hair around his temple before she settles back in her seat, tapping the menu. “Well, I wouldn’t want to break her heart by breaking up with you.”
“No. And there is the fact that we’ve been together for six years,” Rick adds chipperly.
“And sometimes, I have no idea why,” Kate notes with a shake of her head.
