Author's Notes: It's the full-time job of manipulating Robert Chase.

A job is a job, whether it’s mopping up kids and their vomit, whether it’s saving the world, or just sitting on your ass and letting the world fall to pieces around you. House is of the opinion that even hobbies are just little jobs of their own, masked as ‘fun’. He’s an expert yo-yo’er, a champion juggler, and a master at cane manipulation. Just for fun, he’d sent his resumé off to St. Sebastian’s, just to see the reception it would get.

And of course, to drive Cuddy a bit nuts when he told her that he was shopping around for ‘better offers’, as it were.

House has this one job, though, that he’s really growing fond of in his spare time between being a General Hospital connoisseur and a Magazine Fanatic. This one is turning into a full-time job, just because it’s so rewarding.

It’s the full-time job of manipulating Robert Chase.

It doesn’t have the best of pays, not the worst of them, and House learns to interpret little things – knows when he’s pushing a hot button, knows when he’s too cold to really land a good insult. There are go-to’s if he’s ever concerned. Like the father. If House is ever in doubt, a choice remark about the Elder Chase and his lack of affection can get Chase to grit his teeth and he’ll be moody the rest of the day. Giving Chase a child patient is sure to bring out that playful side in him (provided the kid isn’t a fattie or a smoker or a druggie. Those damn Australians, thinking they know all about healthy).

And if House ever really wants some pathos, he just hands Chase a female alcohol and tells him to ‘deal with her’.

Every single thing has a calculated reaction by this point and House loves it, he just absolutely adores it, seriously. It’s like being the King of his own little country. It’s so cool. And at the end of the day, there’s this little signal that tells him that Chase is going to come back tomorrow for another Day at the Greens.

Chase just meets his eyes, gives him a long, lingering look (always like he’s going to say something) and just winds up nodding the once.

Which means it’s back to work tomorrow.

THE END
